Eat unleavened bread during those seven days; nothing with yeast in it is to be seen among you, nor shall any yeast be seen anywhere within your borders. Exodus 13:7 (NIV)

As you prepare for Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the lists below may help you to determine which products should be removed for the Feast, and which products are acceptable.

Unacceptable

BREWER’S YEAST—including vitamins and other products derived from brewer’s yeast
BAKER’S YEAST
BAKING SODA—sodium bicarbonate
BARM—yeast
BICARBONATE OF SODA
ETHYL ALCOHOL—frequently appears in products such as dishwashing liquid (unless designated as Kosher for Passover), perfumes, colognes, etc.
DISTILLED SPIRITS—whiskey, rum, gin, scotch, etc.
BEER
MALT SYRUP
EXTRACTS such as vanilla. Some brands are artificial and do not contain a distilled ingredient (alcohol). Also, there are some pure vanilla brands which are not leavened—check with the producer.
DISTILLED VINEGAR—contained in most pickles and condiments such as ketchup.
PET FOODS—watch for vitamin additives and leavening (yeast)
CREAM OF TARTAR
Acceptable

TRISODIUM PHOSPHATE
CALCIUM CARBONATE
SODIUM CARBONATE
SODIUM CLORIDE—salt, unless leavening is added as an anti-caking agent
WINE, SPIRITS & LIQUORS made from fruit or produce in which yeast is NOT added to the fermenting process. This would include Kosher for Passover wine and some fruit brandy. Check with the producer to learn if yeast was added.
MALT
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
SOAP POWDER—unless leavening (usually sodium bicarbonate) is added.
RUBBING ALCOHOL—wood alcohol (isopropyl alcohol)
METHYL ALCOHOL
CETYL ALCOHOL
SD ALCOHOL—synthetically derived alcohol
HEALTH CARE PRODUCTS—generally contain Methyl Alcohol and are therefore accepted for use. Check labels carefully.
SODIUM ACID PYROPHOSPHATE
SODIUM BISULFITE
TOCOPHEROLS
HYDROLIZED WHEAT PROTEIN
